How to Connect Paytm Business QR to Trust Gateway

Set up Paytm Business QR payments in Trust Gateway: find your MID and UPI ID, choose Paytm routing, and verify a test order.

A Paytm Business QR can receive customer UPI payments, but saving its details in a gateway dashboard is only the first step. You also need to check the payee, choose how orders are routed, and confirm that a real test payment reaches a verified order status. This guide walks through that process in Trust Gateway.

Before you start
  • Have access to the Paytm for Business account that owns the receiving QR.
  • Find its Merchant ID (MID) and the UPI ID shown for that QR.
  • Use a Trust Gateway account with an active plan and access to Connect Merchant.
  • Reserve time for one small end-to-end test before sharing a checkout with customers.

1. Check the Paytm account details

Open your Paytm for Business account and locate its MID. Then open the QR details and copy the receiving UPI ID. These are different identifiers: the MID identifies the merchant in the Paytm status flow, while the UPI ID tells a customer's payment app where the money is going. Do not substitute a phone number or a personal UPI ID unless that is the actual receiving VPA for the merchant QR you intend to use.

Compare the displayed business name and receiving identity in Paytm before you enter anything in Trust Gateway. If the QR belongs to another store or account, stop and correct that first. The customer should be able to recognize the intended receiver when approving a payment.

2. Save the connection in Trust Gateway

In the dashboard, open Connect Merchant → Paytm Gateway. Enter the MID and Paytm QR UPI ID; add the cashier phone number if your setup uses it. Save the details, then return to the connection overview and confirm that Paytm is shown as connected. The connected label means the details were saved. It does not prove that Paytm will confirm an order; the dashboard explicitly asks you to check compatibility with a real transaction.

Trust Gateway highlights Paytm as a recommended connection in this screen. That helps merchants find the setup quickly, but it is not a promise of approval, settlement speed, or compatibility for every Paytm account.

3. Choose where new orders go

If you want Paytm to receive orders when your API request does not name a gateway, open Default Routing, choose Paytm Gateway Only, and save. Merely connecting Paytm or seeing a Recommended badge does not change your saved route. Smart Auto Routing is a separate option; inspect the selected route before your first live checkout.

After changing routing, generate a fresh payment request. An old link or order may still carry the receiving source selected when it was created. If your application explicitly passes a gateway in an API request, review that request as well: an explicit route can override the default.

4. Run an end-to-end payment test

  1. Create a small payment request and open its hosted checkout.
  2. Check the amount and Paytm receiving identity in the UPI app before approving it.
  3. Complete the payment, then wait for the corresponding Trust Gateway order to report a verified success.
  4. Compare that result with the Paytm transaction history and your own order reference.

The Paytm status integration checks the transaction response against the configured MID, order reference, amount, transaction IDs, and success status. A QR scan, app handoff, or customer screenshot is not enough to mark an order paid. If the gateway leaves the order pending, do not fulfil it simply because the payer says they completed the transfer. Compare the receiving account's record and contact support with the order ID and approximate time.

Common setup problems

The card says connected, but the order stays pending

First verify that the new order actually uses Paytm, not a previously saved default route. Check the MID and QR UPI ID against the Paytm account and inspect its transaction history. Saving credentials is not a live transaction test. Keep the order pending while its status cannot be matched.

The payee in the UPI app looks wrong

Do not ask a customer to approve the payment. Recheck the UPI ID entered in Connect Merchant and create a new checkout after correcting it.

The customer paid near expiry

Keep the original order reference. Compare the Paytm transaction record and gateway status before creating a replacement request, so the customer is not accidentally asked to pay twice. The order-status guide explains how to handle pending and expired states.

Paytm gateway setup questions

Where do I enter my Paytm MID in Trust Gateway?

Open Connect Merchant, choose Paytm Gateway, and enter the MID in Paytm Business Setup. Save the QR's receiving UPI ID in the separate field. The MID alone does not tell a customer's UPI app where to send money.

Does connecting Paytm automatically make it the default?

No. Open Default Routing and save Paytm Gateway Only if you want Paytm to receive new orders that do not request another gateway explicitly. A connected status and a Recommended label do not change routing by themselves.

How do I know the Paytm QR payment was successful?

Check the specific gateway order's verified status and compare it with Paytm transaction history. Opening a UPI app or seeing a payer-side success screen is not enough for automatic fulfilment in your business system.

When the test works end to end, read the developer API guide for integrating checkout into your own app. Treat the first live customer payment with the same care as the test: the verified order outcome, not the open QR, is the signal for fulfilment.
